About Us

EFCU was established on July 1st 1953 by members of IBEW 68 Denver to better the financial future of IBEW 68 members and their families. Over the years we worked to expand our membership to include additional Denver area Labor Unions such as IBEW 111, UFCW 7, Plumbers Local 3, Carpenters Local 55, OPEIU 5, and many other Labor Unions through our affiliation with the Colorado AFL-CIO and the Denver Area Labor Federation.

The goal of the credit union, from day one, is best described by our mission statement which is the following:

"To serve the current and future financial needs of our present and potential members in the most convenient and productive manner possible and provide our members with expanding financial services at fair and favorable rates and terms, while continuing to assure the credit union’s sound financial position.”

As the only Colorado credit union, or bank, with a unionized office staff (organized through OPEIU Local 5), members can rest assured knowing they have access to competitive financial products and services while also supporting fellow Labor Union members.

Who Can Join?

Today, EFCU serves the following unions and groups with pride:

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 68 (IBEW 68)
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 111 (IBEW 111)
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 (UFCW 7)
Plumbers Local 3 (PPF/UA Denver)
Carpenters Local 55 (CJA Denver)
Office & Professional Employees International Union Local 5 (OPEIU 5)
Denver Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA)

Any labor union affiliated with either the Colorado AFL-CIO or the Denver Area Labor Federation (DALF).

EFCU offers convenient services including online bill payment, online banking, direct deposit and more. Our members also have access the CU Service Network and the CO-OP ATM network which provides access to over 4,400 shared branch locations and 28,000 surcharge-free ATM's nationwide. At a shared branching location, transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, transfers and loan payments can be performed as if you were at your home credit union.

The Credit Union Difference

As your Colorado credit union, we can offer you significantly better rates over most banks. Credit unions like EFCU are not-for-profit cooperatives and therefore price loans, pay interest on funds you've deposited, and charge fees to provide you with high-quality, low-cost services. Banks price products and services to make a profit. You earn more on your savings--in some cases up to one percentage point--at a credit union.

Typically, loan rates also are better. Did you know that the average credit card interest rate is four percentage points better at credit unions vs. banks? Credit union auto loans average almost one and one-half percentage points less than bank's auto loan rates. That difference can save you hundreds of dollars over the term of the loan.

Credit unions, like
EFCU, are owned by members and operated by volunteer boards. This is a big difference from a bank which is owned by outside stockholders and controlled by paid boards.  Because you're an owner of EFCU, your say in how we do business is important to us. Let your elected, volunteer board members and the EFCU staff, know how we're doing, and what additional services you want at your credit union. We look forward to serving you.
